Gut-Wrenching Attack Outside Annunciation Catholic School: Multiple Injured as Shooter Contained

 


On Wednesday 27 August 2025, horror struck during the first week of the new school year at Annunciation Catholic School in south Minneapolis. At approximately 08:15 a.m., students and staff were assembled for morning mass when sudden gunfire erupted. A gunman, clad entirely in black and armed with a rifle, opened fire—reportedly discharging between 50 to 100 rounds through stained-glass windows into the packed congregation .

Minneapolis law enforcement, alongside federal agencies—including the FBI, ATF and Homeland Security—responded swiftly. By 10:30 a.m., officials confirmed that the shooter had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that there was no ongoing threat to the community . Tragically, approximately 20 individuals were injured in the assault; reports of fatalities remain unconfirmed but at least two deaths (including children) have been cited by justice-department sources .

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz described the atrocity as “horrific,” offering thoughts and prayers for the affected families, while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has activated emergency response and is coordinating closely with law enforcement . President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have also publicly expressed solidarity and concern as the investigation continues to unfold.
