Why Britain Cannot Deport Rochdale Grooming Gang Leader Shabir Ahmed — Even After Stripping His Citizenship

A legal loophole from 1971 means the ringleader of the Rochdale child grooming gang, released eight years early and rejected by Pakistan, must remain on UK streets under taxpayer‑funded monitoring. Share The release of Shabir Ahmed, the ringleader of the Rochdale grooming gang, has sent a shockwave through communities across the UK. Ahmed, now in his seventies, walked out of prison around eight years earlier than the full length of his sentence , despite being convicted of some of the most brutal child sexual offences ever brought before a British court. He was supposed to serve decades. Instead, he is back on British streets under licence, fitted with a GPS tag and placed under curfew, but undeniably free. Shabir Ahmed, and Adil Khan, lost their bid to keep British citizenship after a failed 2017 appeal, yet Ahmed was still released in 2026 despite Pakistan refusing to take him back. Anguilla Football Association Honours Dancer Romaine Carby. A Spirit That Will Never Fade.

Anguilla is mourning the devastating loss of Romaine Carby, a young man whose life was defined by talent, discipline and a quiet determination that inspired everyone who crossed his path. His recent passing, the result of a horrific homicide, has shaken the island to its core.

Romaine and friends at Code Red in Anguilla — wishing strength to every dancer mourning his loss and carrying his spirit forward.

Romaine was more than a dancer, more than a student, more than a teammate — he was a bright spirit whose presence lifted dancers, football fields and community spaces alike. His death has left a silence that feels impossible to fill, a reminder of how fragile and precious life is, and how deeply violence wounds a community.

The Anguilla Football Association honoured him with recognition through Eagle Claw FC, a gesture that reflects the respect he earned both on and off the field.  Social media has become a living memorial, filled with memories, photographs and messages from those who loved him — a digital chorus of grief, disbelief and gratitude for the time they shared with him.

Although 49‑year‑old Krishna Baijnauth of George Hill has been arrested and formally charged with murder and arson in connection with the death of Romaine, many in Anguilla say justice still feels distant. Romaine, who succumbed to stab wounds during the violent incident before his body was found near a burnt‑out vehicle, was only 35 years old. A life stolen so brutally can never truly be repaid, and closure remains a complicated, painful journey for those who loved him.

As the island grapples with this loss, one truth stands above all: Romaine’s life mattered. His dreams, his laughter, his dedication, his kindness — all of it mattered. Anguilla has lost a son, a friend, a teammate, a role model. In the face of tragedy, the community now carries the responsibility of honouring his legacy by demanding safety, unity and accountability.

Romaine, Nardo, Chiney Man, Sharp Star Carby. You are missed.

I'd always remember you as someone, quiet, calm and soft spoken. That person I met in 2010 just before you moved to Anguilla. You didn't deserve such a death Nardo. God knows this hurts deep. Sleep well Nardo.
