Remembering Latif and Sina: A Community Mourns as Anthony Joshua Joins Janazah at London Central Mosque

Anthony Joshua stood quietly among the hundreds gathered at London Central Mosque, his presence a solemn tribute to Latif and Sina—two young men whose lives were cut tragically short. The Janazah brought together family, friends, and members of the wider community, all united in grief, remembrance, and prayer.

In the stillness of that sacred space, the weight of loss was unmistakable, yet so too was the love that surrounded the two men being honoured.  What made the moment even more profound was the heartbreaking truth that Joshua himself had narrowly escaped the same fate. Just ten minutes before the fatal crash, the driver—who has since been charged—asked him to move from the front seat to the back, saying he was blocking his view.

Many attendees said this was one of the largest Janazahs they had seen at the mosque in recent years — a testament to the impact Latif and Sina had on so many lives.

That simple, almost insignificant request became the difference between life and death. It saved Joshua’s life, but it cost him the lives of two dear friends. It is the kind of twist of fate that leaves a permanent mark on the soul, a reminder of how fragile and unpredictable life can be.

For Joshua, living with that reality is something no amount of fame, strength, or discipline can shield him from. Survivors often carry a unique kind of grief—one that blends gratitude with guilt, memory with mourning. He will never forget Latif and Sina, nor the moment that changed everything. But as time moves forward, he will learn to carry this loss differently, finding ways to honour their lives while navigating the emotional terrain that comes with being the one who survived.

AJ’s quiet presence said more than words ever could. His first public post was a photo with the families of Latif and Sina, captioned “My Brothers Keeper”

The Janazah was more than a farewell—it was a call to reflect on the preciousness of life, the unpredictability of our journeys, and the importance of the choices we make, even the ones that seem small. In the face of tragedy, the community stood together, offering comfort, unity, and prayer. And in that shared grief, there was also a quiet reminder: life is fragile, tomorrow is never promised, and the people we love are our greatest blessings.
