For British Overseas Territories Citizens (BOTCs) living in the UK, the journey to full British citizenship is more accessible than ever. Many people assume they need to pay hefty lawyer fees or sit through costly consultations, but the truth is the process can be completed entirely online. The UK Home Office provides a straightforward application route through the official Nationality BOS form, allowing you to take control of your future without unnecessary expenses.

If you're a British Overseas Territories Citizen (BOTC) living outside the UK, you can still apply for British citizenship using the Nationality BOS online form. The Home Office allows overseas applicants to complete the form digitally, making the process more accessible no matter where you reside. However, you’ll need to ensure you meet all eligibility requirements and have access to a biometric enrolment centre in your country or region.

Once your application is submitted, you’ll be guided step by step. The system will provide details on how to book and attend your biometric appointment, where you’ll give fingerprints, photographs, and copies of the required documents. This ensures your identity is verified and your application progresses smoothly. By choosing the online route, you avoid delays and keep the process transparent, with all instructions coming directly from the Home Office.

As of April 2025, the fee to register as a British citizen for BOTCs is £1,070, payable at the time of application. This covers the Home Office’s processing costs and secures your place in the system. With the online method, you remain in control, save money, and avoid hidden charges. Once your application is submitted and your biometrics are complete, the Home Office typically takes up to 6 months to process BOTC citizenship applications.
While some cases may be resolved sooner, it’s important to allow time for
document verification and background checks. If your application is
successful, you’ll be invited to attend a citizenship ceremony, either in the UK or at a British embassy or consulate if you applied
from abroad. This ceremony is a formal and celebratory moment where you’ll
take the oath of allegiance and officially become a British
citizen—marking the end of your application journey and the beginning of a
new chapter.

VERY VITAL information, I actually needed this. Thank you I was about to visit a lawyer for over 2000 quid.😯
ReplyDeleteUseful thanks.
ReplyDeletePaid a lawyer £1300 and still ended up going online as the lawyer completed the wrong form, be careful with stuff like this. HO don't give you money back!
ReplyDeleteIs there a minimum time to be residing in the UK?
ReplyDeleteHow do you submit your payment though?
ReplyDeleteCan you do this living in Anguilla or St Kitts?
ReplyDeleteAnguilla Government wicked, why they not tell you about this, instead send you AGC , money is everything.
ReplyDeleteMy Citizenship ceremony was boring😣 and I felt bad pledging to the King👀 this man don't know if I am alive or dead 🤣
ReplyDeleteHad a consultation with a lawyer that didnt even know this was possible, when I said it was he didnt even know the correct form to use, some lawyers are a waste of time and money.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the point of being British anyways? far as I see we all British automatically, cause Anguilla not independent britian is doing us wrongs by charging us for whats ours. How can we belong to Britain but still have to pay for it. Money making things. Pure nonesense

ReplyDeleteSo why I over here thinking Anguillians done British lawd poor me.
ReplyDeleteSo the Governor that is appointed by Britian , hmm just a question, is he on a work permit? If our Governor is appointed by britain and Anguilla not independent how are we not british already?
