The move comes after the prospect that prisoners, including those convicted of serious crimes, could have benefited from earlier release dates under changes designed to ease pressure on overcrowded prisons. Among those affected is the case of PC Andrew Harper, the Thames Valley Police officer who was tragically killed in 2019 while responding to a burglary. His family expressed devastation at the possibility that those responsible could have been released sooner.
