Homecare’s Got Talent 2026 winner Macey Shaw opens up about music, loss, caring, ambition and the dream of becoming a professional performer
There are moments when a talent show becomes about far more than winning a competition. For Macey Shaw, her journey to becoming the winner of Homecare’s Got Talent 2026 is a story about family, resilience, compassion and a lifelong love of performing — but above all, it is a story that shines a powerful light on the people who spend their lives caring for others.
Long before she stood on stage as a competition winner, Macey was creating her own performances as a child. She recalls dressing up, making tickets and putting on shows for her family — a glimpse of the performer she would eventually become. Her passion developed further when she joined New Youth Theatre, attending every Saturday and performing in shows throughout the year. Singing lessons followed, and her love of performance continued to grow.
For Macey, some of that inspiration came from the films she watched growing up, including The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins and Oliver! She was drawn to the ability of music and performance to tell a story and connect with people — something that remains at the heart of her ambition today.
But alongside her musical journey was another path that would shape her just as profoundly.
A young Macey in one of her most treasured moments with her dad — a memory that now carries both warmth and ache.
At 17, Macey became a carer
Macey first entered the care profession at just 17 after leaving college and looking for full-time summer work. Her mother, who had also worked as a carer, encouraged her to give it a try.
She did — and immediately discovered something that would become an important part of her life.
“I completely fell in love with the job,” Macey says.
For her, caring is about much more than a job description. It is about relationships, listening to people's stories, sharing conversations and sometimes simply making someone laugh.
And remarkably, she has found a way to bring the two worlds she loves together.
Macey has used her musical talent while caring for clients, including singing to people living with dementia. Familiar songs, she explains, can help bring back memories and create comfort and connection.
It is a beautiful reminder that caring is not always about the biggest gestures. Sometimes it can be a conversation. A smile. A familiar song. A moment of human connection.
As Macey puts it, “the smallest things, a song, a conversation, a smile, can mean so much to someone.”
That message deserves to be heard far beyond a talent competition.
Behind every cared‑for person is a carer who shows up with patience, love and resilience. They carry the weight no one sees, and their impact reaches far beyond the job.
Two passions. One remarkable journey.
Macey's life has increasingly become a balance between caring and pursuing her dream of musical theatre.
In September 2025, she began studying at the London College of Music, moving to London to pursue her ambitions. That meant she could no longer work full-time in care, but rather than walking away from the profession, she spoke with her workplace — and they supported her continuing with the team and returning during holidays to pick up shifts.
For Macey, neither career has been a distraction from the other.
She believes caring has actually made her a better performer.
Music has taught her confidence, creativity and self-expression. Caring has taught her patience, empathy and, perhaps most importantly, how to truly listen and understand people.
“Being a carer has also made me a better performer because it has helped me understand people and emotions on a deeper level,” she says.
After losing someone she cared for deeply, Macey Shaw turned her pain into purpose — using sound, music and compassion to help others heal. Her Homecare's Got Talent win isn’t just a celebration of talent, it’s a tribute to every carer who keeps going, even when their own heart is breaking.
It is a powerful perspective — particularly for an industry that often celebrates what happens under the spotlight while overlooking the people who spend their working lives putting others first.
Macey entered Homecare’s Got Talent because she loved performing, wanted to meet new people and wanted to celebrate the work carried out every day across the care sector.
Winning was never supposed to be the destination.
And perhaps that is what makes the victory even more meaningful.
Macey describes being crowned the winner as “surreal and emotional”, admitting that she still struggles to find the words to describe what happened.
For her, the competition was never simply about taking home the title. It was an opportunity to stand on a big stage while celebrating the remarkable people working within care.
Now, the woman who once performed homemade shows for her family has a much bigger audience.

And she has no intention of stopping.
Her dream is to eventually become a professional performer and build a career in musical theatre. She admits she does not know exactly where the future will take her, but she is excited to find out.
There could even be more music coming from the Homecare’s Got Talent family. Macey revealed that finalists from the previous competition came together to record a Christmas single at Abbey Road Studios — and hinted that there may be something exciting ahead this year too.
For now, however, there is another prize waiting to be claimed: a holiday for two.
Asked where she plans to go, Macey says she has not decided yet, although Greece is firmly on the radar.
After everything this year has brought, she says, “a sunny holiday would be very welcome.”
Macey’s journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been honest — and that honesty is what makes her unforgettable.
Behind the voice is a deeply personal story
Perhaps the most moving part of Macey's journey is one she says sits behind her passion for music.
Her father sadly passed away when she was 13.
Since then, she says she has carried a part of him with her in everything she does.
Performing has become more than a career ambition. It is also a way of honouring someone she wishes could have seen how far she has come.
Macey says a major reason she continues to pursue music is because she wants to make her father proud.
Losing her dad as a teenager — at one of the most defining moments in a young girl’s life — could have stopped her. Instead, Macey Shaw found a deeper fire within her. Every step she takes, every note she sings, is fuelled by the love she carries and the promise to make her dad proud. Her strength isn’t just seen, it’s felt.
Whenever she steps onto a stage, she likes to think that he is somewhere watching her.
And perhaps that is what makes her story resonate so strongly.
Because behind the winner, behind the voice and behind the performer is a young woman who has experienced loss, found purpose in caring for others and continued to chase a dream that began when she was a little girl putting on shows for her family.
Her voice carried the weight of her journey, and the audience felt every ounce of it. Each note drew them closer, held them still, and moved them in ways only truth can. Every note she released felt like a heartbeat, and every person watching held on — not just listening, but feeling.
A tribute to the carers behind the curtain
Macey Shaw may have walked away from Homecare’s Got Talent 2026 with the winner's title, but her story belongs to something much bigger.
It belongs to every carer who turns up when someone needs them.
To those who listen when nobody else does.
To those who make someone laugh on a difficult day.
To those who learn the stories of the people they care for and become part of their lives.
And to those who, despite their own dreams, responsibilities and challenges, continue to give something of themselves to others.
Wishing Macey all the best as she steps into her future feels natural — because she’s already shown the world what heart, courage and true artistry look like. Her journey has moved audiences, her voice has carried memory, and her presence has left a mark that doesn’t fade.
Macey has shown that caring and talent do not exist in separate worlds.
Sometimes, the person helping someone remember a song is also the person carrying a dream of their own.
And sometimes, the voice that touches thousands on a stage is the same voice that has spent years bringing comfort to someone who simply needed to hear a familiar song.
Macey Shaw is now the winner of Homecare’s Got Talent. But if her story so far is anything to go by, this may only be the beginning.
