An 11‑year‑old boy at Sinqobile Primary School in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, was allegedly dragged into a school toilet during break time and forcibly circumcised by four older pupils — an act so brutal that he returned home walking “in a strange way”, according to his mother. The Grade 5 pupil was reportedly pinned down by Grade 7 boys who tied a red ribbon around his penis before cutting off his foreskin, leaving him swollen, terrified, and in severe pain. The attackers allegedly threatened to beat him if he told anyone, a threat that kept him silent until his mother noticed his distress days later.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with parents questioning how such an attack could occur inside a school — a place where children are legally required to spend up to eight hours a day under the care of educators and administrators. South African Police Service officials have confirmed that the case is being investigated as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and no arrests have yet been made.
